TAKE CARE, IT'S YOUR HAIR!

Taking care of your hair in summer means paying a little bit more attention than you usually would. Lucky for you we’ve put together our top 5 hair care tips to make sure you hair stays happy & healthy all summer long!

1. Wash It Less
Washing your hair too often will strip your scalp of all the important natural oils it needs. Unfortunately this is a vicious cycle - stripping the natural oils will further stimulate oil production, making your hair appear oilier and making you feel like you need to wash it more. Instead of shampooing your hair every day, try to just gently rinse it off when you come in from a day at the beach or the pool.

2. Use The Right Brush
When your hair is wet, it’s most susceptible to breakage, so you should avoid brushing it when wet if possible. If you do have pesky knots you need untangled, try using a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush, as they are much more gentle on your hair. Brushes will pull and tear your hair when they come across snags.

3. Protect It
When you’re out in the direct sunlight, try and wear a hat or scarf over your head to protect from the UV rays. This will not only stop your scalp from being sunburnt, but it will help it retain moisture! A hat will also reduce damage to your hair caused by the wind (particularly relevant if you have fine hair that gets tangled/knotty easily!) You should also consider wearing your hair in looser styles - such as a loose braid. Pulling elastics tightly in your hair will result in breakage, especially if your hair is already dry and weak from the sun.

4. Deep Condition
Once a week you should use a deep conditioning treatment in your locks to help restore moisture and strengthen the strands. When you get out of the shower, you can use coconut oil to smooth & de-frizz your hair, as well as provide a bit of extra moisture. Coconut oil will give you a nice shiny look without making your hair greasy.

5. Reduce Heat Styling
During summer your hair is already exposed to a large amount of heat, so you should try and avoid adding to that where possible. Let your hair dry naturally instead of using the hair dryer. Hair straighteners will also suck the moisture straight out of your hair and cause it to break! If you’re worried about having frizzy hair from when you shower, try using one of our shower caps. They’re made from microfibre which means they’ll actively prevent your hair from frizzing!
